About Our Founder and CEO

 Mike Nelson’s photography career spans three decades, during which he served as a senior and contributing photographer for numerous publications, producing countless features, portfolios, photo essays, travel stories, and cover shots. He also filmed and produced three surf documentaries — Couch Tour, North of Nowhere, and ESM’s Always Right — two of which are regarded as cult classics in the New York surf scene. Mike has also been a small business owner, event promoter, mentor, and steadfast supporter of all things surf in the Empire State. Together with his business partner, he took their retail vision, Unsound Surf Shop, from a simple idea to the cornerstone store of New York surfing, while their annual surf contest, the Unsound Pro, has gained recognition as one of the most progressive surfing events in the United States. Mike sold his interests in Unsound Surf in 2023, and today he runs Greenroom Property, a busy boutique imaging and media company. He leverages his years of photography and marketing experience—honed while working with some of the world’s largest action sports companies—to create high-quality digital media for major real estate brokerages, interior designers, building developers, and businesses across Long Island. He lives in Oceanside, NY.
